Group & equine therapy groups — coming this fall

Healing isn't about erasing what you've been through. It's about discovering the strength that's been within you all along.

About Kayla

I believe healing begins by rediscovering the strength that's been within you all along. My goal is to provide a compassionate, supportive space where you can navigate life's challenges, strengthen your relationships, build confidence, and create lasting change.

My path to becoming a therapist began with six years of military service, which gave me a deep appreciation for resilience, perseverance, and the importance of meaningful connection. With over six years of experience in mental health, including private practice, crisis intervention, crisis stabilization, psychiatric services, and behavioral health leadership, I have had the privilege of supporting individuals through some of life's most difficult moments, including first responders, veterans, and those navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, and major life transitions.

My approach is rooted in attachment theory and focuses on helping you better understand yourself, develop healthier relationships, and build resilience from within. I offer both individual counseling and equine-assisted psychotherapy, creating opportunities for healing through traditional talk therapy as well as the unique, experiential connection between people and horses. Together, we'll work toward helping you feel more grounded, confident, and connected, in therapy and in everyday life.

A Different Kind of Session

Equine psychotherapy

Equine sessions are grounded in a Natural Lifemanship approach, an attachment-based, trauma-informed way of working alongside horses, or miniature donkeys, if you're more comfortable with them. The horse or donkey becomes an active partner in the process, helping us explore connection in a way that talk alone doesn't reach.

Through that connection, you'll notice how your lived experience shapes both your responses and your equine partner's responses. As you build a safe, trusting connection together, you begin strengthening your own mind-body awareness while experiencing what a secure relationship can feel like.

Common Questions

FAQ

Therapy can be scary, especially the first time. I believe each session should be flexible to meet your needs. When you have a lot to discuss, I'm here to listen, support you, and be a sounding board. When you're not sure what to talk about, I can help guide the conversation. Every session is collaborative, and we'll work alongside one another to help you reach your goals.
It's extremely common to feel like therapy isn't working. Many clients work with several therapists before finding someone they truly connect with, and that's completely normal. Finding a therapist you feel comfortable with matters because it allows you to open up and begin working on what brought you to therapy in the first place. If we meet and you don't feel like I'm the right fit, there are no hard feelings. I'll gladly help you find referral options that feel like a better match.
Equine sessions run through a Natural Lifemanship lens, an attachment-based, trauma-informed approach to therapy that happens alongside horses, or miniature donkeys if you're more comfortable with them. The horse or donkey becomes an active partner in the process, helping us explore connection in a unique and meaningful way. You'll build awareness of both verbal and nonverbal communication, notice how your lived experience shapes your responses and your equine partner's, and begin strengthening your own mind-body connection while experiencing what a secure relationship feels like.
